Choosing a sleep training program or baby sleep consultant is a big decision, and it's completely normal to have questions. Whether you're wondering if sleep training is right for your family, comparing sleep consultants, worried about crying, or trying to understand how our approach differs from other programs, we're here to help.
At MyBaby Sleepology, we believe educated parents make confident parents. That's why we don't just tell you what to do, we explain why it works, so you'll have the knowledge and confidence to navigate regressions, teething, travel, developmental milestones, and future sleep challenges long after our time together ends.
Below, we've answered the most common questions we receive about baby & toddler sleep training, our programs, and what it's like to work with our team. If you don't see your question here, we'd love to chat!
Why should I work with MyBaby Sleepology instead of just asking ChatGPT or searching Google?
We get this question all the time, and it's a great one. ChatGPT is an incredible tool for general information, but your child's sleep isn't general. It's very personal.
One thing we see quite often is parents turning to ChatGPT for reassurance. For example, a parent might ask, "My four-month-old is waking three times a night. Is that normal?" The answer may very well be yes, because for many babies at four months, that can be developmentally appropriate. But it can also very well be fixed, and rather quickly with the correct guidance!
The challenge is that months later, that same family is asking, "My six- or seven-month-old is still waking three times a night," and they're receiving similar reassurance. While that information isn't necessarily wrong, it doesn't recognize when something that was once developmentally appropriate has become an established sleep habit that's no longer serving your child or your family. AI tools often validate that what you're experiencing can be normal, which can provide peace of mind. But there comes a point when continuing to hear "this is normal" keeps families stuck instead of helping them move forward. Our job is to recognize when it's time to shift from reassurance to action.
Another important difference is consistency. ChatGPT has been trained on information representing many different sleep philosophies and approaches. Depending on how a question is asked, the details you provide, or even the follow-up questions, the suggestions can shift from one conversation to the next. It isn't following one proven methodology or seeing the full picture of your child's progress over time.
At MyBaby Sleepology, every recommendation is rooted in one consistent, science-based methodology that has been refined through our experience helping thousands of families over the past decade. We use your child's sleep data, circadian rhythm, developmental stage, temperament, and daily progress to make thoughtful adjustments along the way. Every recommendation builds on the last, creating a clear roadmap instead of a collection of individual answers.
Our goal is to give you something they can't: a personalized plan, consistent guidance, accountability, and the confidence that comes from truly understanding your own child and one that is backed by science!
What makes MyBaby Sleepology different from other sleep consultants?
Education. Many sleep programs focus on getting your child sleeping. We focus on teaching you how sleep works. Throughout your program, we'll explain:
Why timing matters
How circadian rhythm impacts sleep
How to adjust schedules confidently
Why regressions happen
How developmental milestones affect sleep
What to do during illness or teething
How to navigate travel and vacations
When to make schedule changes as your child grows
Rather than memorizing rules, you'll understand the science behind them. That means long after our time together ends, you'll feel confident making decisions on your own.
I don't want to use the "cry it out" method.
You're not alone. This is one of the most common concerns we hear. Many parents are surprised to learn that "cry it out" is only one sleep training approach, and it isn't the approach every family chooses.
We'll discuss your comfort level and recommend a method that feels like the best fit for your family. Whether that means a gradual approach, a modified check-in method, or another strategy, we'll help you choose an approach that aligns with your parenting style while giving your child the opportunity to build healthy, independent sleep skills.
No matter which method you choose, our goal is always the same: To lovingly and consistently teach your child an important life skill while supporting you every step of the way.
Will my child feel abandoned?
No. One of the biggest misconceptions about sleep training is that it damages the parent-child relationship. Secure attachment isn't built from one bedtime. It's built from thousands of loving interactions throughout the day: feeding, cuddling, playing, comforting, reading books, laughing together, responding to needs, and spending quality time together.
Sleep training is a short-term teaching process with a long-term goal: helping your child learn how to sleep independently. In fact, many families tell us they feel even more connected afterward because everyone is finally well-rested, more patient, and able to enjoy their time together!
Will there be crying?
Probably, yes. Any time children learn something new, there can be frustration.
Learning to crawl. Learning to walk. Starting daycare. Transitioning away from a bottle or pacifier. Sleep is no different!
Our role is to help minimize unnecessary frustration, which we can do by nailing timing throughout the day, while teaching your child a lifelong skill. We'll prepare you for what to expect, explain what's normal, and coach you through every step so you never feel like you're navigating it alone.
What if we've already tried everything?
You're exactly who many of our clients are. By the time families find us, they've often already tried:
Books
Blogs
Social media advice
Wake windows
Apps
Online courses
Pediatrician recommendations
Friends' advice
The missing piece usually isn't effort. It's personalization and science!!
Sleep is incredibly nuanced, and sometimes the smallest adjustment in timing or consistency completely changes the outcome. That's exactly what we're here for!
